Facebook launches ‘permissions’ for apps, websites

NEW YORK – Facebook is rolling out a new feature that requires outside applications and websites to tell users exactly what parts of their profiles have to be shared for the apps to work.
Applications already had to ask users for permission to access anything in their profiles that wasn’t public. But these services didn’t have to specify what information they were using. Such information can include your photos, your friends’ birthdays or your e-mail address. Continue reading

Professional WordPress Design and Development

WordPress is one of the most popular open source blogging systems available, with global and vibrant user, developer, and support communities. Though it can be compared to TypePad, Moveable Type, Google’s Blogger, and the Apache Roller project as a user-generated content workhorse, WordPress distinguishes itself with a broad array of hosting options, functional extensions (plugins), and aesthetic designs and elements (themes).WordPress started similarly to many other popular open source software packages: Some talented developers saw a need to create a powerful, simple tool based on an existing project licensed under the GPL. Michel Valdrighi’s b2/cafelog system provided the starting point, and WordPress was built as a fork of that base by developers Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little. WordPress first appeared in 2003, also built on the MySQL open source database for persisting content and PHP as the development platform. Continue reading

Joomla for Dummies | Learning and Study Joomla

Joomla For Dummies

Joomla For Dummies

Joomla (we’re dropping the final exclamation point from Joomla! in the text of this book, following the convention in other books and making this book more readable) gives you total control of your Web site — the layout, the navigation menus, the text, everything. And this book gives you total control of Joomla. Today, users are demanding more from Web sites. It’s not enough to have static text on your Web site — not if you want a steady stream of visitors. You’ve got to update your pages continually, making your site fresh and keeping it new. You’ve got to have an attractively, professionally formatted site. You’ve got to have tons of extras: polls and e-mail signups and newsflashes and menus, and more. Who can afford the time to maintain a site like that and write the content too? Continue reading

Website Owner’s manual |the secret to successful Websites

Website Owner's manual

Website Owner's manual

The secret to a successful website Here’s the million-dollar question: “What is the secret to a successful website?” I’n not foolish enough to suggest a single answer. However in my decade of working on client websites I have noticed a recurring
pattern. The sites that succeed are those that have a well informed, passionate website owner at the helm. No single thing makes a site successful, but a good website owner will put into place the elements that give a site a fighting chance.
The question should not be “What is the secret to a successful website?” but “How do I become a great website owner?”
No definitive manual exists explaining how to do the job. What does it mean to be a website owner and how can it be done successfully? Continue reading

Freelancing Rockstar | What is Freelancing and How it works?

freelance book

Although freelancers today are usually designers, writers, programmers, photographers, or illustrators; a few centuries ago the word freelance had a whole other meaning. Back then mercenary knights or ‘free lances’ were soldiers for hire, named for the long poles they carried and the freedom they had in whom they fought for.

Though a lance is no longer required, today’s freelancer does share one thing in common with those knights: the freedom to choose.
It is this freedom to be your own boss, to select your projects and clients, and to have a different lifestyle. This is what draws so many people to a career in freelancing. Continue reading
